About the program
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological condition affecting ~1 million people in the US.
A common symptom in Parkinson’s disease is increasingly cramped handwriting (micrographia), affecting over ~75% of people with Parkinson’s.
Therapeutic exercises, like handwriting practice, have been shown to help—improving handwriting, increasing brain activity, and keeping patients more connected to who they are.
Parkinson’s Cards to Heroes was designed to help motivate people with Parkinson’s disease to keep up their handwriting exercises, through the act of transcribing messages of gratitude to everyday heroes around the nation, including those at the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
